Kids workshop: "A brush with nature"

A workshop aimed at children, dedicated to making handmade brushes from natural materials and mark making using nature based inks.

Time & Location

07 Oct, 11:00 – 12:30

London, Townsend Yard, London N6 5JF, UK

About the event

We will start by taking a walk around OmVed Gardens, collecting flowers, leaves and sticks to make our brushes from.

Then working outdoors (weather permitting), we will assemble our nature paintbrushes before looking at different ways to make marks using naturally prepared inks.

We will think about different brush heads, their sizes and textures for a variety of mark making and discuss the use of colour combinations to express our thoughts and ideas.

There will be a still life to paint from or the children can use their own imagination to create a final painting.

Finally the children will be able to take home their handmade brushes as well as their finished paintings.

The workshop is aimed at kids between 6 and 12. Kids should come accompanied by an adult.

Meet the workshop host:

Corrie Wingate is an artist and arts facilitator with a background in travel and documentary photography. More recently she has begun to embark on a career as a painter.

After traveling across the African continent as a photographer, and because of her interest in teaching art to children, she founded an Art centre ‘Kids create Kenya’ at a children’s home on Lamu island, Kenya. Now in its 9th year, the art centre is a place where children and young adults can express themselves freely through art. She continues to spend several months of the year in Kenya where she runs creative workshops for children and teenagers.

Corrie has been part of the garden and kitchen team at OmVed Gardens since 2020 and you can find her either cooking for volunteers or working in the kitchen garden.
