Medicinal mushrooms can help to balance out the immune system and also act as adaptogens to support the adrenal (the system of the body that deals with stress). They are general tonics for the body as a whole and are great to add to the diet during the cold and flu season.



2 cups (approximately 20, or 300g) medjool dates
1 cup (approx 125g) of nuts (such as pecans, cashews, almonds etc)
1/2 cup (approx 65g) pumpkin or mixed seeds
2-3 tablspoons cacoa powder
2 tablespoons turkey tail (Trametes versicolor) or chaga (Inonotus obliquus) powder*
2 tbsps honey, or alternative syrup such as maple or date

In a blender, mill the nuts, seeds and cocoa and mushroom powder to a powder. Place in a bowl. Blend the dates in the blender and add to the dried ingredients. Add the honey or syrup and mix together until all combined into a paste. Press into a baking paper lined tray and chill in the fridge for 1-2 hours. Slice into 4cm squares.

* To increase the bioavailability of medicinal compounds in mushrooms  they need to be prepared in a certain way. You can buy good quality powders from Hybrid herbs.

To use: have one bar for breakfast or as a mid morning snack.

Shelf life: Will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-2 months or they can be frozen for up to 1 year.
